It was pretty inevitable I guess. I need other hobbies, summer school just doesn’t hold me down. Everyone in class is taking notes and I’m daydreaming about light, dry, fluffy powder that swallows my entire being as I plunge down the mountain. I guess that’s how you end up on top of a couloir of snow surrounded by rock in the middle of July. Oh well, at least Utah allows me to indulge my addiction — even if it is the dead of summer.

Sean Sullivan is a senior at the U, majoring in photography.

The University of Utah Ski and Snowboard Club demos the “Ski Trikke” during Brighton’s final weekend.

This past weekend was a tough one for a lot of snowboarders and skiers. Brighton, Alta, Park City, Solitude, and The Canyons all closed, and were the last of the normal season resorts to spin chairs. Riders in Utah can still hit Snowbird until early June.

Brighton was the natural choice for our crew on closing weekend, and the University of Utah Ski and Snowboard Club rolled out a red carpet of free lunch to all comers….hot dogs, burgers, and all sorts of other treats. Our friends from G4G.com, or Gear For Guys, cruised up to let club members have some free demos on Ski Trikkes.

We rode hard every morning and when the snow in the park got too bad we took the scooter trikkes out. The Utah Ski and Snowboard Club is going to have free lunch days at Utah resorts every month next year along with demos from ski trikkes and snowboard and ski brands, which will definitely be good times.

By the way……just because Brighton closed doesn’t mean that we are going to shred any less until school gets out. In fact…I’m going up after class tomorrow….

In complete honesty, I had written a lot of this season off. After early January it felt like it stopped snowing and that I would miss every storm-cycle traveling somewhere with less snow. I was pretty bummed as I was hoping for a repeat of last season…
…until 2 weeks ago…
Close to 200″ of snow has fallen in Little Cottonwood Canyon and I have been milking every single second of it. It feels like December again! This is just a short sample of the footage I have gathered from the last few days and I’m sure more will be captured soon!

Oh…and Ullr, I fully expect a signed note from you excusing me from all the class I’ve been too “sick” to make.
